Nurses at Ibeju-Lekki to protest non-payment of 10-month salaries

There are indications that nurses at the Primary Health Centers in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos may soon go out to protest the non-payment of their salaries for the past 10months.

A contract nurse who works in one of the health centers in Ibeju Lekki area spoke to Fort news correspondent on condition of anonymity, said that nurses in the local government have not been paid for the past 10months.

“We don’t know our offence or while the government has decided to punish us for giving out our services”, the source said.

Further investigations by Fort news indicated that no staff of Lagos state is owed any  salaries as all staff are paid from a central system called Oracle.

“The Oracle is a computer-based system that takes care of all salaries in Lagos state, it has a database of all staff and pays salaries as at when due. If there are staff whose salaries have not been been paid, such staff must be contract staff”, a staff of Ibeju Lekki government Council told Fort news on telephone.

A local government staff at Igando Ikotun told Fort news that he is not aware that Lagos state is owing any staff except contract staff. He said contractors should be held responsible for the non-payment of the contract staff in their employ.

The affected nurses are calling on the governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to come to their rescue as life has become unbearable as a result of their inability to feed their families.

When Fort news contacted the public relations officer of Ibeju Lekki to get her response, she said was not in a position to speak on salaries of health workers in the local government.
